For a female artist back when was younger, as much as she loved riding them she loved drawing horses. A career painting horses and other subjects of the natural world became possible for the artist thanks to her early training plus her many years of experience. A number of dogs, hens, horses, and reindeer can be seen in her pastel and watercolor paintings.
About 11 years old was her age when her family moved to the present county from Philadelphia. Just like her mother and sister, her father who was a commercial artist painted as a hobby. What is considered to be real important to an artist by her father is drawing. In the structure of the animals she paints, such are evident details.
She loves to paint animals and this has expanded to dogs and cats for subjects. In the present home she shares with her husband, they have two dogs and a cat. She often paints pets for private commissions as well.
With regard to how light distinctly stands out in her paintings, this may be the bright white of daylight or the darker amber hues of evening. Considering her paintings, she cares a lot about having a sense of light. Her preference for watercolor can be associated with this. Taking watercolor into consideration, this involves a series of transparent washes going over paper. White paper glows when the paint is applied. With the use of oil paint, there is another fashion in creating light. Letting light be revealed is a matter of painting everything around it.
In terms of using watercolor, there is a need for an artist to paint around the white. The process that follows the use of oil is painting in the dark shadows and then adding the light. Luminosity in oil paintings is a challenge this artist would like to take on at some point in her career. She says she loves the impressionists and would love to spend a couple of years painting in oil.
Her move to the present location at the countryside from the former town is what inspires her nowadays. As she explores the back roads, she takes photographs of the old farmhouses and landscapes in the foothills. It worries her whenever there are old farmhouses that get torn down. When it comes to acknowledging and protecting the old houses, she feels the urgent need to paint them. For her, there is much favor for the historic architecture.
Included in the passions of this artist are creating still life paintings. From texture to detail, she suggests these subtly rather than paint realistically or use a photographic style. In her paintings of pets, the focus is on the animal's facial expressions in as much as the detail. Beside the known school of art that she attended, she also went to the Maryland institute college of art in Baltimore. She was 25 when her professional painting career began but for much of her career she worked as a nurse. She established her credentials as a painter through the ensuing years especially in areas covering florals, architectural subjects, portraits, and pets. For a day per week she still practices nursing.
