Located on the border of Tanzania, The Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya is the ultimate safari destination for those who want a traditional safari holiday. The reserve is also famous for its 'big cats' with many television documentaries being filmed here recording the in their natural habitat. The Great Migration occurs at the Masai Mara Reserve every year when the wildebeest, gazelles and zebras from the Serengeti migrate to the area. You can also expect to see elephants, buffalos, rhinos and hyenas along with the big cats - cheetahs, leopards and lions. The Mara River runs through the reserve and this is home to lurking hippos and crocodiles.
For those who like their holidays to be as close to reality as possible then The Zambezi Valley in the Zambia is the place to visit. This area is vast and still and up and coming tourist area with not many guides operating at all at the moment. You can expect an authentic experience here and if you have a specific wildlife interest like birds or fish you can find some great safaris that focus solely on these creatures. There are canoeing and boating safaris available in this area as well as walking safaris for those who like to get a bit active on holiday. The Kruger National Park in South Africa is one of the oldest and largest wildlife parks in Africa. You can expect to see lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and buffalos to name just some. The park runs along the border of Mozambique and Zimbabwe and is also home to the Crocodile River, which as the name suggests is home to these dangerous but beautiful creatures.
