The best hotels in San Jose are those that manage to balance cost and amenities. What does that mean? It means you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for decent room in proximity to the hot spots. While these hotels may not be the Four Seasons, they are luxurious, clean, and welcoming. Brace yourself: there are only two mentioned here. The third is a nearby tourist attraction.
Of the two, the Larkspur at Saint Claire is the best of the best. The decor is playfully avant garde and the architecture is dazzling. While it's not located in downtown San Jose, it is still within a reasonable distance. Moreover, it's close the Convention Center and the airport. It is the ideal location for a family on vacation or a business professional on assignment.
Equally close to the Convention Center is the Ramada Limited. That's the main attraction to the Ramada: location, location, location. This hotel is only three blocks from San Jose State University and approximately three miles from he airport. What about the rooms? They're clean, standard Ramada rooms with high speed Internet and continental breakfasts.
Now, the final hotel here isn't really a hotel, it's a tourist attraction. This attraction is known as the Winchester Mansion. It's a 162 acre residence that was continuously under construction. Started by Sarah Winchester, it was meant to be her place of residence, but quickly turned into something of a paranormal obsession.
Sarah Winchester was the wife of William Winchester, the infamous arms manufacturer. In an effort to baffle malevolent spirits who were killed by her husband's arms, and at the behest of a psychic medium, she devised the mansion as a kind of maze to keep away spirits. She spent an unthinkable sum , especially at the time, of $5 million. It had climbed to seven stories until it was topple back down to four by the 1906 earthquake.
