It's Terribly Exciting At Last The Work In The Kitchen Is Finished

I cannot concentrate a great deal today. It is all too exhilarating for words and my knowledge of English can't quite extend to properly describe it. The fact is that the men have done with installing my new kitchen and it is fantastic. Exactly as we designed it, pictured it and wanted it. And there is not a Weber bbq in view. While the job has been going on, eight days in all to install it since it was a major job, we've been missing the advances that civilisation has made in the last century or so. No dishwasher, no sink, not to mention running water and, worst of all, no cooking equipment.

Everything that kept in the kitchen has been moved into the dining room and tidied away as best we could, with the things we surely would not be requiring put in the remotest corners or under tables or chairs. Whatever we could need cluttered the tops of the tables and chairs and wherever that might be near to hand. The bits we certainly would have to have were heaped onto dressers, sideboards and stuffed into cupboards. Most of the cooking utensils were placed into a waterproof bag and put out by the Weber bbq which, under a smaller set of charcoal grills would be the one go we would have of cooking.

As it happened, the climate stopped us using the charcoal grills since we wouldn't be able to get the charcoals burning sufficiently and for a couple of evenings it was too chilly for the Weber gas grills so we had to try and exist on anything we could get into the microwave. These were mostly pre-cooked which I hadn't had in almost 10 years and the 1st Mrs Izzard even longer. And we were astounded by them. Bearing in mind that we love cooking, which is a big reason why we've had the new one (the other was the old one was literally falling apart) these microwave things were totally awful! They were thoroughly soulless, completely joyless and so brightly coloured that we were not able to dare to check the list of ingredients.

The new range, now installed, functional and beautiful is a Stoves Range with 7 gas rings, 2 gas ovens, an electric grill and a slow cooker. I love it and it's turned out to be a pleasure to cook on as we have just discovered when I made lunch of spaghetti Bolognese as a quick test of the rings and the first Mrs Izzard made some Indian snacks dishes this afternoon for some chums who are coming over this evening to inspect.

We were intending to be able to have some home brewed beer but it isn't complete as it hasn't cleared. It's very near but just not quite there. And it's not bad for my initial attempt, and by the time summer returns next year, I plan to be very proficient at making beer and also be able to create a tasty burger as well as I bought a mincer and sausage maker. All of which may mean that when the Weber gas grills come out of hibernation we should be able to give a superb party when we also reintroduce the yearly do for friends and family.
